RFID Technology Explained

Salik uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to automatically collect toll fees as vehicles pass through designated toll points. Here's how the system works:

1. Tag Installation

Your Salik tag contains a microchip that stores your account information. When installed properly behind your windshield, it communicates with overhead readers at toll gates.

2. Detection Process

As you approach a toll gate, overhead antennas detect your tag and read your account information. This process happens in milliseconds without requiring you to slow down or stop.

3. Fee Deduction

The applicable toll fee is automatically deducted from your prepaid Salik account. Your account balance is updated in real-time.

4. System Confirmation

A green light confirms successful deduction, and you can continue driving without interruption. Failed transactions trigger a red light and audible alert.

Getting Started with Salik

Obtain Your Tag

Purchase a Salik tag for AED 100 (includes AED 50 credit) from:

  • RTA Customer Happiness Centers
  • Salik shops across Dubai
  • Online through the RTA website
  • Authorized dealers

Account Setup

Create your Salik account with:

  • Vehicle registration details
  • Personal identification
  • Payment method for recharging

Tag Installation

Properly install your tag:

  • Clean the inside of your windshield
  • Place the tag in the designated position (usually behind the rearview mirror)
  • Ensure it's securely attached and not obstructed

Maintain sufficient balance through:
